October 14, 2024Shifa Free Clinic announced that it has been awarded over $500,000 in grant funding from the Office of Minority Health of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This generous funding will significantly support Shifa’s efforts to expand Diabetes education and prevention in underserved communities across the Greater Charleston Area through the INSPIRE-D Project.

The primary objective of the INSPIRE-D Project is to expand early diabetes screenings in underserved communities while offering culturally relevant education, prevention strategies, and management resources.
“This grant is a huge undertaking and will be so helpful to our community.” said Dr. Reshma Khan, Executive Director of Shifa Free Clinic. “It will allow us to expand awareness about diabetes and help improve people’s health.” When asked what is needed to support this project, Khan replied, “We are actively in the process of recruiting our Community Advisory Board. This board will play a crucial role in guiding the grant and ensuring we adhere to best practices throughout.”
