4th annual Blythewood Fall Championship rodeo happening this weekend

October 23, 2024

Experience Columbia SC Sports is happy to once again work with the Blythewood Fall Championship Rodeo presented by Scout Motors. Now in its fourth year, the event takes place at the Prisma Health Arena in Blythewood Friday, October 25 – Saturday, October 26. Gates open at 5:30 each night with the rodeo beginning at 7:30 p.m.

This wholesome family event draws thousands of attendees annually to what has become one of the most competitive rodeo venues in the Southeast. The Blythewood Rodeo Committee, the Town of Blythewood, event sponsors and competitors are all proud of the community growth and development the rodeo spurs through donations to youth groups and charities.

Blythewood is a premier stop on the International Professional Rodeo Association schedule and the event features top-ranked professional cowboys and cowgirls competing in eight rough stock and timed events, including bucking broncs, steer wrestling, barrel racing and bull riding, in an attempt to qualify for the IFR Finals Rodeo in Guthrie, Oklahoma in January. This late season push for points and prize rankings needed to qualify is expected to draw the best of the best to Blythewood this weekend.

Award-winning rodeo entertainer and bull fighter TJ Williams is making an appearance, and the Ken Treadway Rodeo Company will be onsite to showcase award-winning livestock athletes like Desperado, the 2022 Bucking Bronc of the Year, and Storm Trooper, the Bucking Bull of the Year.

“Blythewood is home to 50 stables and equestrian facilities and the Blythewood Fall Championship Rodeo provides a wonderful avenue for the public to connect with this aspect of the area’s identity,” said Scott Powers, executive director of Experience Columbia SC Sports. “This exciting event is fun for the whole family and we are happy to continue to support it.”

Attendees can also enjoy food and fun, plus a boot race for the chance to win a pair of Ariat cowboy boots or jeans. The event will take place rain or shine and attendees are encouraged to come early to snag the best seats for what will be a sell-out show. Tickets to the “Greatest Show on Dirt” are $20 for adults, $12 for youth age six – 12 and free for children age five and under.
