Northwestern Mutual Upstate SC offices and Paladin football athlete raise funds for childhood cancer

October 28, 2024

Upstate SC and Furman Paladin senior linebacker #39, Evan DiMaggio, proudly announce their participation in the National Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Cancer Champion Competition. The fundraising competition was designed to support critical childhood cancer research for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a long-time partner of Northwestern Mutual.

“Evan and the other football players are making an incredible impact on and off the field. It has been inspiring to watch communities, businesses, and universities rally behind these athletes’ efforts and come together for such a meaningful cause,” said John Tripoli, Managing Director for Northwestern Mutual’s Upstate SC offices.

As part of the competition, student-athletes from FCS schools and their local Northwestern Mutual offices have come together to help drive donations to accelerate the search for better treatments and cures for childhood cancer. Each player is raising funds in a variety of ways including rallying friends and family, reaching out teammates and alumni networks, and leveraging social media to promote Northwestern Mutual’s #LemonTopChallenge. For every challenge completed, Northwestern Mutual will donate $10, up to $100,000, to ALSF.

Northwestern Mutual will donate $10 to the designated player’s fundraising page for anyone who takes the challenge and posts it to their social media feeds up to $100,000. To participate in the #LemonTopChallenge, participants are required to balance a Lemon on your head, snap a picture, post the photo on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, or Instagram Feeds, and tag @alexslemonade , @northwesternmutual, #GoPaladins and #LemonTopChallenge. All tags must be included.

About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who was fighting cancer and wanted to raise money to find cures for all children with cancer. Her spirit and determination inspired others to support her cause, and when she passed away at the age of 8, she had raised $1 million. Since then, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement. Today, ALSF is one of the leading funders of pediatric cancer research in the U.S. and Canada raising more than $200 million so far, funding 1,000 research projects and providing programs to families affected by childhood cancer.
