October 29, 2024Armen Shaomian is the winner of this year’s prestigious Michael J. Mungo Undergraduate Teaching Award at the University of South Carolina. Shaomian, an associate professor of sport and entertainment management, focuses his classes on the business side of entertainment. Known for complex discussions, Shaomian emphasizes participation through the Socratic method, cold-calling students to ensure engagement. He keeps the classroom atmosphere lively with humor, often poking fun at himself to maintain a positive tone.

Over the years, he has led multiple study trips, including to Mexico City, emphasizing the life-changing potential of global travel. His passion for international education stems from personal experience—an exchange program first brought him to the U.S. at age 16, shaping the trajectory of his career.
