Genesis Healthcare opens Walterboro Family Care and Pediatrics

New health center will offer affordable medical services to the area
Genesis Healthcare celebrates the opening of Walterboro Family Care and Pediatrics, its newest Federally Qualified Health Center bringing affordable healthcare to residents of Colleton, Allendale and Bamberg counties, this week. The facility began seeing patients this month and hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 24.
Special guests including community and business leaders and the USC Salkehatchie men’s basketball team joined Genesis Healthcare leadership and providers at Thursday’s event. A surprise dedication saluted Charles Farmer for his tireless work making this Walterboro health center, which will be named The Charles H. Farmer III Community Health Center in his honor, a reality.
Farmer has worked since 2015 to bring this center to Walterboro. “Charles’ relentless pursuit of excellence and his commitment to the well-being of this community have been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition,” said Paul Fulbright, Senior Executive Officer, during the dedication.
“The Walterboro community can now anticipate a healthcare facility that not only meets but surpasses their expectations,” said Kim Weatherford, Chief Operating Officer. “Genesis Healthcare’s integration of a variety of services under one roof highlights our commitment to delivering accessible, affordable and high-quality healthcare to the communities we serve.”
Walterboro Family Care and Pediatrics will provide adult family care, offering personalized and comprehensive healthcare services for adults. Pediatric care will also be a key component, ensuring specialized and compassionate attention for the community’s younger residents. The center will feature advanced imaging services, including bone density scans, X-rays and ultrasounds, to enhance diagnostic accuracy.
A dedicated team of providers will facilitate holistic case management, ensuring efficient coordination of care for all patients, along with comprehensive diabetic care and foot care services. Additionally, an on-site pharmacy will offer convenient access to prescription medications and pharmaceutical expertise.
In line with a commitment to overall patient well-being, the health center will soon also incorporate behavioral health services, emphasizing mental health and demonstrating Genesis Healthcare’s dedication to addressing the full spectrum of community healthcare needs. Dental services will be added as well, integrating oral health care into the facility’s focus on total wellness.
