City of Columbia resubmits the proposed parking rate ordinance for first reading on Tuesday, November 19, 2024

The City of Columbia is resubmitting an ordinance for first reading regarding the proposed parking rates throughout the City of Columbia. Based on public feedback from educational meetings and public hearings with neighborhoods, business districts and other stakeholders, City leadership modified the ordinance to alter some rates in the parking system.

Some changes include:

• 1^st hour free in all City of Columbia parking decks
• Reduced on-street parking rate from $2.00 to $1.50
• No proposed changes to hospitality rooftop-only parking; $35/month
• Reduced owner occupant residential permits from $120 to $60
• No enforcement on Saturdays in the Main Street District from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
• City-wide on-street parking enforcement from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (Monday-Saturday)

The City of Columbia is proposing increased parking rates in order to reinvest revenue into the parking system and enhance the customer experience.

The City will focus on infrastructure, maintenance, and repairs that are crucial to the overall quality and utilization of the parking decks throughout the system. Investments will also be made in operations, systems, innovation and aesthetics. A number of projects will take place immediately, with others projected over the next few years.

A public hearing and 1^st reading regarding the resubmitted ordinance for proposed increases will be taking place on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 during the City Council meeting to be held at City Hall, 1737 Main St., at 4:00pm.

If approved, second reading for the proposed parking rate ordinance will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 during the City Council meeting to be held at City Hall at 4:00 p.m.
