AT&T upgrades wireless network and boosts speeds in Chester County
November 14, 2024Network Expansion in Chester Will Help Provide a Better Network Experience to Customers
AT&T* has expanded its 5G network in Chester, giving residents, businesses and visitors a big boost in their wireless connectivity. AT&T added a new cell site to enhance the area’s coverage and capacity.
The new site in Chester boosts coverage on the southeast side of the city along JA Cochran Bypass, Highway 321 and near Chester Regional Medical Center.
“AT&T’s investment in a new cell tower in Chester is a welcome investment and one that will help more residents, businesses and first responders stay connected. This enhanced connectivity will also help our seniors and children, providing them with greater access to telehealth services, educational resources, and social connections,” said Representative Annie McDaniel (District 41). “This new wireless infrastructure in Chester is an important step in helping close the digital divide and will help drive economic opportunity in the community.”
AT&T 5G brings fast, reliable and secure connectivity to more than 310 million people in over 25,700 cities and towns nationwide, which includes Chester. This helps South Carolina residents and businesses get the best possible experience over the AT&T network wherever they live, work and play.
These enhancements also bring Band 14 spectrum to the area. Band 14 is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet® – the only nationwide communications network created with and for public safety. We look at Band 14 as public safety’s VIP lane. In an emergency, this band – or lane – can be cleared and locked exclusively for FirstNet subscribers. When not in use by FirstNet subscribers, AT&T customers can enjoy Band 14’s added coverage and capacity.
“At AT&T, we know how important it is for our customers to stay connected. We are proud to invest in Chester County with wireless infrastructure necessary to connect in today’s digital world,” said Kathleen Evans, Regional Director of External Affairs, AT&T. “With enhanced wireless coverage, our customers will be able to experience better network connectivity that will help with virtual learning, responding to emergencies and connecting with one another.”
From 2019 to 2023, AT&T invested nearly $1.4 billion in our wireless and wireline networks in South Carolina. These investments boost reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance for residents and their businesses.
