Four Roper St. Francis Healthcare hospitals earn ‘A’s’ for patient safety

Every hospital at Roper St. Francis Healthcare has once again achieved an “A” Hospital Safety Grade in the latest Leapfrog Group ratings. The achievement reflects the healthcare system’s unwavering commitment to patient safety.

This marks the fourth consecutive grading period that Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital, Roper Hospital, Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital have received top scores, demonstrating the system’s dedication to safeguarding its patients from preventable harm and medical errors. These hospitals are the only ones in Berkeley, Dorchester and Charleston counties to earn As this grading period

“At Roper St. Francis Healthcare, building a culture of safety for both our patients and our teammates is at the heart of what we do,” President and CEO Joseph DeLeon said. “We hold ourselves accountable to the highest standard, and Leapfrog offers a key measure for that dedication.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the spring and fall.

“Achieving this level of recognition means our patients will experience the highest level of quality and the safest care at every single Roper St. Francis Healthcare facility,” DeLeon said.

Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems that hospitals have in place to prevent them.
