Midlands Technical College (MTC) has officially inaugurated Dr. Gregory D. Little as its seventh president.

Held at Harbison Theatre, the inauguration brought together elected officials, state technical college system leadership, and college commissioners. Emceed by WIS News 10 anchor Judi Gaston, the evening celebrated Dr. Little’s contributions to education and his vision for the college.

Nikki Setzler, the longest-serving incumbent state senator in the nation, shared that Dr. Little will drive MTC toward innovation and leading economic development for the Midlands. “It’s a new beginning, and exciting time for all of us who are big supporters of Midlands Tech,” shared Setzler. “Under Dr. Little’s leadership, Midlands Tech will be innovative and flexible. It will prepare our students for a world-class education in the world of technology, while at the same time staying on its mission to teach the trades that are needed in everyday life in South Carolina.”

At the conclusion of the inauguration, MTC Commission Chairwoman Sandra Jackson bestowed the MTC President’s Medallion upon Dr. Little, instilling him as the seventh president of the college. In his remarks, Dr. Little thanked his mentors; previous and current colleagues; the MTC Commission; and most importantly, his family for always being there.

Growing up, Dr. Little was surrounded by educators, and he found his passion at a young age. “My family’s love for education comes from the profound understanding that education is more than a vocation; it is more than just collecting a paycheck or earning a degree; it is based on the deep belief that education has the power to make dreams come true. I am proud to say that I have spent my entire career working in the field of teaching and learning. I can promise you that I have seen firsthand how education changes lives.” Dr. Little has passed his family’s love for education to his eldest daughter, who intends to become a special education teacher.

Dr. Little graduated from Wilkes Central High School in Wilkesboro, North Carolina in 1993. Following in his family’s footsteps, he continued his education and earned his undergraduate degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1997. He went on to complete his master’s in 2004 and doctorate in 2007 in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
