AIA Aspire and AIA South Carolina Honors 1×1 design’s Maddilyn Riester with regional and State Design Awards
December 4, 20241×1 Design congratulates team member, Maddilyn Riester, on receiving two prestigious design awards for her graduate design work. Maddilyn and her teammate, Kayla Pratt, received the regional AIA Aspire Graduate Student Merit Award and an AIA South Carolina Student Design Honor Award for the project entitled “South Carolina Agricultural Education Center”.
Completed during their comprehensive studio at Clemson University, the South Carolina Agricultural Education Center aims to create an inclusive, inviting atmosphere fostering community engagement, interaction, and learning. Located at a prominent community hub in Columbia, the design thoughtfully incorporates spaces serving students and the community. Central to the program is a growing field prominently visible to all users and passersby, encouraging active and visual participation between students and the community. Integrating natural elements throughout the site supports both academic and recreational activities, promoting engagement and well-being. Through thoughtful design, the project seeks to cultivate a space that educates and inspires a deeper connection to the environment by students and the community.
Prior to joining 1×1 Design in July of this year, Maddilyn received degrees from Midlands Technical College (Associates in Science in Architectural Engineering Technology) and Clemson University (Bachelor of Art in Architecture and Master of Architecture). While at Clemson, Maddilyn was recognized on the Dean’s and President’s list, while also mentoring the freshman class as they navigated their first year of the architecture program during the pandemic. In addition to her studies, she also worked within the School of Architecture helping to coordinate events like the popular Career Expo.
“We couldn’t be prouder of Maddi and the recognition she and Kayla have received for this work. Completing Comprehensive Studio is a feat in and of itself; completing it while also producing award winning work is nothing short of amazing,” comments Asheley St. John, President of 1×1 Design. “We are excited she has chosen to work with 1×1 Design as she begins her career.”
