City of Greenville uses state funds to accelerate road safety improvements

Thanks to a one-time matching program funded by state gas tax, Greenville will receive $7.5 million to make streets safer, bringing the total capital budget for a dozen projects to $15.8 million.

City Engineer Paul Dow said five sidewalk and street improvement projects are cued to begin this spring:

• Phase 2 of the Augusta Street Safety Project, improving traffic flow and reducing vehicle conflict points
• Sidewalks at:
  • Keith Drive, from Woodlark Street to North Pleasantburg Drive
  • Henderson Road, from High Croft Subdivision to Wembley Road
  • Wembley Road, from Henderson Road to Shelburne Road
  • Lowndes Hill Road, from E North Street to Keith Drive

“We basically are able to double the number of projects we can do,” City Manager Shannon Lavrin said.

Summer 2025

• Signal replacement at intersection of Pendleton and Textile streets
• White Oak Road and Bradley Boulevard realignment

Fall 2025

• Ashley Avenue resurfacing

Winter 2025

• Willard Street Bridge replacement

Spring 2026

• Stone Avenue/Rutherford Street intersection upgrade
• Stone Avenue/I-385 safety improvements

Summer/Fall 2026

• East Washington Resurfacing
