State Treasurer Curtis Loftis extends deadline for SC elementary teachers to receive new personal finance kit

December 10, 2024

State Treasurer Curtis Loftis announced the deadline has been extended to Friday, December 20th for South Carolina elementary teachers to register for a free personal finance lesson classroom kit.

Based on the popular coloring book – Lucky Ducky and the Smart Plan, the Lucky Ducky Lesson Plan encourages teachers to lead meaningful discussions with creative activities that are designed to help students learn how financial education, continuous skill development, and goal-setting play a crucial role in personal growth and achievement.

“We initially planned to send the first 100 teachers a Lucky Ducky interactive classroom kit and the response was so positive that we now have almost 300 teachers signed up,” Treasurer Loftis explained. “In the spirit of holiday giving, we have ordered more kits and extended the deadline so even more students can learn how to save their money and make smart financial choices.”

The free classroom kit includes the Lucky Ducky and the Smart Plan lesson plan, 30 Lucky Ducky and the Smart Plan coloring books, a piggy bank, and bookmarks for their students.

In partnership with SC Economics and through its own Future Scholar 529 College Savings Plan, the State Treasurer’s Office has developed a number of initiatives to expand personal finance instruction in South Carolina, including its successful SC Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program. The Master Teacher Program provides targeted training designed to equip educators with the tools and expertise to increase personal finance lessons in grades K-12.
