The South Carolina Association for Justice (SCAJ) Presidents’ Council has recognized attorney Jack Duncan with the Mullis Award of Excellence. This distinguished honor celebrates outstanding service, dedication, and contributions to the promotion and protection of justice. SCAJ, which has over 1,300 members, advocates an accessible judicial system and fairness under the law. The award was presented during the Annual Advanced Trial Lawyer College in Atlanta, Georgia, where attorneys nationwide convene for professional training and educational seminars.

Jack Duncan, a native of Aiken, has been a dedicated member of the South Carolina Association for Justice since 1977. After earning his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina in 1972 and completing his J.D. at the USC School of Law in 1976, Jack began his legal career as a public defender in Lexington. He has practiced law in Lexington for nearly five decades, earning a reputation for his expertise and unwavering commitment to justice.

Jack has held numerous leadership roles within SCAJ, including serving as its Past President and as a Board Member for over 20 years. Alongside Terry Richardson, he co-founded the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association Political Action Committee (SCTLA PAC), demonstrating his dedication to advancing the legal profession. A sought-after speaker, Jack has shared his knowledge at many criminal law section seminars throughout his career. Outside of the courtroom, he is known for his compassionate spirit, regularly adopting pets with his family.

“A longtime member of the South Carolina Association for Justice, Jack embodies the core values of advocacy, mentorship, and integrity that the Bo Mullis Award celebrates,” said Syndney Lynn, current President of SCAJ. “His commitment to advancing the practice of trial law is evident through his mentorship of young attorneys and his contributions to continuing legal education. Jack’s exemplary career and dedication to justice inspire us all.”

The Presidents’ Council, comprised of all past SCAJ presidents, selects recipients of this prestigious award. The Council established the honor in memory of J. Marvin “Bo” Mullis, whose legacy of advancing legal education and excellence spanned over three decades. Mullis played a pivotal role in the development of the Advanced Trial Lawyer College, which has become a premier annual seminar covering a wide range of continuing legal education (CLE) topics. Following his passing in 2012, the Presidents’ Council created the award to recognize individuals who uphold his enduring commitment to “education, service, and excellence.”
