Charleston’s professional tennis tournament awarded top honors from the Hologic WTA Tour for the third year in a row

The Credit One Charleston Open, North America’s largest women’s-only tennis tournament and the official clay season kickoff on the Hologic WTA Tour, has been named ‘WTA 500 Tournament of the Year’ for the third consecutive year. This prestigious recognition, awarded by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), is voted on by the players, who honor a tournament based on the excellence of its staff and organization, its passionate fans, and its broader commitment to the sport and its athletes. The Credit One Charleston Open was selected from among 18 WTA 500 tournaments worldwide, competing against events in Australia, Europe, China, and other international locations.

“I’m incredibly proud of the team for earning the distinction of Tournament of the Year three years in a row for the Credit One Charleston Open. This achievement is a true testament to the hard work, dedication and passion that everyone brings to our event,” said Bob Moran, President of Beemok Sports & Entertainment. “It’s not just about putting on a great tennis tournament – it’s about creating an unforgettable experience for the players, fans and the entire community. I couldn’t be more grateful for the Navarro family’s commitment to excellence, and I’m deeply honored to see our efforts recognized on this global stage.”

The Credit One Charleston Open will return for its 53rd edition next year, March 29 to April 6, 2025, which also marks the 25th year of the event in Charleston, having moved from Hilton Head Island in 2001. The tournament is held annually at Credit One Stadium on Daniel Island in Charleston, SC. The event has seen significant growth in recent years, due in part to the renovation and modernization of Credit One Stadium, an elevated fan experience and a consistently strong player field that delivers top-level competition. Current player commitments include two former champions Madison Keys and Belinda Bencic, World No. 7 and US Open finalist Jessica Pegula, World No. 8, US Open semifinalist and Charleston local Emma Navarro, World No. 12 and DC Open champion Paula Badosa.

The ‘Tournament of the Year’ awards are divided into three categories, reflecting the different levels of WTA tournaments. The top honors for 2024 are as follows:

WTA 1000: BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells)

WTA 500: Credit One Charleston Open (Charleston)

WTA 250: Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open (Hong Kong)

“The Credit One Charleston Open should be exceptionally proud of staging an event that continually goes above and beyond to create an atmosphere and environment where players feel comfortable and able to perform at their best. They have earned a well-deserved reputation and set an aspirational standard,” said Portia Archer, CEO of the WTA.

Momentum for the 2025 Credit One Charleston Open is already building, with its ticket renewal and pre-sale program experiencing unprecedented success, nearly doubling pre-sale interest compared to last year. All 100-level seats for next year’s tournament have been renewed and Tournament Long, Finale and Champions packages are sold out. Given the popularity of the event, the tournament has released new inventory in its 300-level with reserved mesh chairback seating. Additionally, the Coastline Lounge was added to the stadium, as a new hospitality ticket, where guests can enjoy premium baseline views and exclusive catering.

The excitement at the 2025 Credit One Charleston Open will extend far beyond the tennis courts, as the tournament introduces a range of new experiences for fans. Attendees can enjoy expanded on-site entertainment, interactive activations and upgraded dining and beverage options. The event will offer pickleball and padel experiences, allowing fans to try these fast-growing sports in a fun, social environment. The tennis-focused Fan Zone will return, presented in partnership with USTA South Carolina, where fans can participate in hands-on tennis activities and games designed to test their skills and inspire the next generation of players. At “COCO Row” fans can explore a curated selection of Lowcountry restaurants, providing a taste of the city’s renowned culinary scene.

When purchasing tickets for the 2025 Credit One Charleston Open, patrons have the option to choose from single session tickets ($10+) and a range of upgraded ticket packages and seat offerings, including the Intro Package ($375+) and Tournament Long Package ($715+). Charleston Tennis, LLC, which manages Credit One Stadium under a lease from the City of Charleston, renovated and modernized the 20-year-old facility in 2022. The city-owned venue underwent upgrades to enhance the stadium experience for patrons, performers, tennis players and event management, allowing the venue to attract world-class athletes and talent to Daniel Island.

The Credit One Charleston Open has been a pioneer in women’s professional sports since 1973, paving the way for female tennis players to receive equal recognition, respect, and compensation in the sport. Originally held on Hilton Head Island, the event relocated to Charleston in 2001 and is now played at the LTP Daniel Island tennis center, home to Credit One Stadium.
