The Financial Aid Specialist serves as the primary contact for community outreach for financial aid for Spartanburg County schools and organizations. Serves Spartanburg County enrolled and prospective students and adults returning to college. Performs FA counseling to prospects, parents, and current students. Performs file review, required follow-up and verification of data as required by the Department of Education. Responsible for the oversight of financial aid processing and awards. Assists with completion of Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) and provides information sessions about financial aid.

• Provides outreach and assistance to all Spartanburg County Schools, organizations and/or businesses for the completion of FAFSA and information about financial aid options. Will provide presentations and information sessions in schools, businesses, organizations, and on campus. Prepares reports on services provided and students served.
• Provides financial aid guidance for prospective students and current students regarding financial aid, the cost to attend, the application process and eligibility criteria.
• Educates students and parents about loans and repayment obligations.
• Assists with packaging federal, state, and institutional financial aid based on policy and procedures.
• Assists students with financial verification processes and SAP appeals.
• Provides open and direct communication with students to ensure aid is processed on time for fee payments. Communicates regularly with students.
• Responsible for tracking needed materials to complete financial aid applications and notifies students of any missing information.
• Participates in training to ensure all state, federal and institutional policy is followed.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s degree and 1 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience. A good driving record, valid driver’s license and successful background check are required.

Preferred Qualifications: Financial aid office experience and familiarity with financial aid related software systems and aid modules. Experience with student integrated systems, mainframe processing, and various personal computer software. Prefer experience with Banner/Ellucian.

Salary: $41,258 – $44,000; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
