MTC Mavericks to Showoff at Harbison Theatre March 15

Annual MTC talent competition returns for the sixth year
Midlands Technical College Mavericks will compete in MTC’s annual talent competition, the MTC Showoff, Saturday, March 15. Auditions were open to current MTC students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Ten final acts were selected to perform for a panel of local expert judges, hoping to secure the title of “Biggest Showoff” and a $1000 grand prize. Produced by Columbia Children’s Theatre Artistic Director Jerry Stevenson and emceed by ABC Columbia’s Tyler Ryan, the MTC Showoff brings together versatile talent from across the Midlands.
The finalists are students Joshua Mark Horne (banjo), Ylezelle Alvarado (vocals/ukulele), Amanda Horne (piano), Timothy Peterson (vocals /piano), Ciarra Howcott (spoken word/poetry), Danielle Harrell (dance), Alexander Drakes (drums), Calvin Guyette (fire-eating), Shekina Arroyo (vocals), and alumna Heaven Aguilar-Helgeson (vocals).
The judges will be Intisar Faulkner, WIS TV news anchor; Don Russo, owner of Freeway Music and guitar player; and Heather McCue of Richland Library and the NiA Theatre Company.
“This show feels like you are watching ‘America’s Got Talent’ right here at MTC,” said Executive Director Kristin Cobb. “The caliber of talent along with the high level of production and staging make this a show that everyone will enjoy. Even if you don’t have a contestant to come support, you will be thrilled with the level of talent and showmanship. We would love for you to join the MTC Maverick Showoffs for a fun evening.”
