Laurens County’s Matthew Brownlee Elected Interim Chairman of South Carolina Young Republicans

Laurens County’s own Matthew Brownlee has been unanimously elected as Interim Chairman of the South Carolina Young Republicans (SCYR), further strengthening the county’s influence in statewide leadership.

Brownlee, a lifelong resident of Hickory Tavern, currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Laurens County Council, where he was elected to represent District 2 in 2024 and selected as Vice Chairman in early 2025. Known for his commitment to community service and conservative values, Brownlee remains actively involved in local organizations including the Farm Bureau and 4-H, and has previously served on the Rabon Creek Watershed District board. His deep roots in agriculture, land conservation, and civic engagement have made him a respected voice in local government.

In addition to his work in Laurens County, Brownlee has been active in Republican youth leadership across the state. He previously served as Chairman of the Lakelands Young Republicans and as Treasurer of SCYR. His unanimous election as Interim Chairman reflects the trust and confidence placed in him to lead the organization forward.
