SC7 Expedition Returns to Laurens County for Day 10 Hike on Statewide Conservation Journey

July 7, 2025

Now in its sixth year, the month-long South Carolina Seven (SC7) expedition is once again traversing the Palmetto State to raise awareness of its natural wonders and the need to protect them. Organized by the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor in partnership with Global Eco Adventures, SC7 brings together outdoor enthusiasts, conservationists, business leaders, and citizens in a shared mission to promote environmental stewardship and sustainable recreation.

On Day 10 of this year’s journey, the SC7 team will head to Laurens County on Thursday, July 10, for a guided hike through the scenic stretch of the Palmetto Trail at Cane Creek. SC7 is partnering with Laurens County Parks and Recreation and the Laurens County Trails Association to host this local event, which offers a unique opportunity to highlight the Upstate’s ecological diversity while engaging the community in environmental action.

“Our goal with SC7 is to spotlight the beauty and importance of South Carolina’s natural resources while encouraging residents to get outdoors and take an active role in conservation,” said Michelle McCollum, President and CEO of the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor. “The Laurens County hike is a perfect example of how communities can come together in appreciation and protection of the environment right in their own backyards.”

SC7 follows a path from the mountains to the sea, loosely tracing the spine of the Palmetto Trail. Along the way, participants engage in hikes, river paddling, and educational sessions while learning about the challenges facing South Carolina’s natural ecosystems—from flood resilience and climate adaptation to wildlife protection and responsible development.

Day 10’s hike in Laurens County not only promotes outdoor activity and environmental education but also fosters collaboration among local agencies and residents who support conservation and sustainable tourism. The Palmetto Trail’s Cane Creek section, with its hardwood forests and peaceful creek crossings, is an ideal location to showcase the county’s commitment to protecting green spaces and expanding trail access for all.

Now a cornerstone event on South Carolina’s environmental calendar, SC7 continues to grow in reach and impact. Its success is fueled by a statewide network of volunteers, conservation partners, and organizations who share a passion for preserving the state’s natural beauty.
