DWG announces promotions on the leadership team

DWG Inc., Consulting Engineers (DWG), announces that Gaelyn Zafred and Cate Smolinsky have assumed expanded roles within the company. Zafred, a Team Leader, is now a Principal, and Smolinsky is now the Director of Marketing and Business Development.

“As part of our leadership team, Cate and Gaelyn are integral to our internal strategy and company growth,” said Brian Bates, President at DWG. “Both women embody our core values; their new titles reflect the leadership they bring to our company, as well as DWG’s need for these roles as we continue to grow to support our clients and the Charleston community.”

Gaelyn Zafred

Zafred has worked with DWG for eight years and leads a team of engineers who specialize in healthcare and faith-based design. In 2023, the Charleston Regional Business Journal recognized her as a Woman of Influence. She was a part of the 2024 Leadership Charleston class and currently serves as Communications Chair on the board of directors for the South Carolina Chapter of the Association of Medical Facility Professionals (AMFP).

Cate Smolinsky

Smolinsky has been with DWG since 2023 and brings over a decade of experience to her new role. She is responsible for developing and executing firmwide strategies that promote DWG’s marketing, business development, and brand positioning efforts. In 2025, the Charleston Regional Business Journal recognized her as a Woman of Influence, and she currently serves as President-Elect of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Palmetto Chapter.
