Auditions Next Week for Shrek the Musical in Clinton

July 16, 2025

The Laurens County Community Theatre is preparing to bring the magic, music, and mayhem of Shrek the Musical to the local stage this fall, and auditions are just around the corner.

Open auditions will be held Sunday, July 20 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Monday, July 21 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Clinton High School Auditorium, located at 18132 Highway 72 East in Clinton.

Director Kris McHone is seeking local talent ages 10 and up to help bring this larger-than-life production to the stage. Roles include beloved characters from the hit movie and Broadway production such as Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Lord Farquaad, Dragon, Gingy, and Pinocchio, as well as a lively and energetic ensemble.

Those auditioning are asked to prepare a one-minute comedic monologue and 16-32 bars of a song in the style of the show. Participants should dress comfortably for movement, as vocal, acting, and dance ability will all be considered during the auditions.

For those who are unable to attend in person, video auditions are being accepted. Detailed audition information, including the character breakdown and video submission guidelines, can be found at tinyurl.com/43jt2tmx.

Rehearsals will begin the week of July 28, with sessions scheduled on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings. A full week of rehearsals will lead into opening performances in late September. The production will take place at Clinton High School Auditorium, with opening night slated for September 28, 2025, and additional performances to follow.

Director Kris McHone shared her excitement for the upcoming auditions. “We are looking for big characters, big voices, and performers who aren’t afraid to have fun on stage. This is such a fantastic opportunity for people of all experience levels to get involved in community theater, and Shrek is the perfect show for that energy,” said McHone.

Whether you’re a seasoned performer or looking to try the stage for the first time, Shrek the Musical offers something for everyone.
