Laurens Library Hosts SC Plants the Seed: Fresh Produce, Healthy Cooking, and Story Time for Kids
July 21, 2025The Laurens Library invites the community to take part in SC Plants the Seed, a special program promoting healthy eating, fresh produce, and early childhood literacy. Beginning in August and running through October, this program will take place on the first two Tuesdays of each month from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Laurens Library.
Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase fresh, locally grown produce from Simms Epps Farm right on site. Plus, when you spend $5, you’ll receive $15 in Healthy Bucks to stretch your grocery budget even further. Forms of payment accepted include cash, SNAP, WIC, SFMNP, and Healthy Bucks.
As part of the event, Sharon Lone from Clemson SNAP-ED will demonstrate how to prepare delicious and nutritious meals using the fresh produce available for purchase. These live cooking demonstrations will offer practical tips and ideas for creating healthy meals at home.
In addition to the focus on healthy food, there’s something for the youngest visitors, too. Children ages 0-5 can receive a free book during story time, thanks to a generous grant from the South Carolina State Library and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
This program is free to attend and open to the public.
