City of Columbia and Core Spaces announce major downtown redevelopment project – July 29
July 22, 2025
Set to become a hub for municipal operations, the new complex will bring key city services under one roof, streamlining operations and making it easier for residents to access the resources they need. City leaders say the project reflects their commitment to improved efficiency and downtown revitalization.
“This is more than just a building project—it’s a catalyst for transformational change,” said city officials in a joint statement. “It will enhance walkability, support local businesses, and reinforce Columbia’s position as a vibrant and connected capital city.”
Immediately adjacent to the Municipal Complex, Core Spaces will break ground on a new mixed-use development that will feature modern housing and ground-level retail. Designed with a focus on hospitality-driven management and innovative urban planning, the project is expected to bring fresh energy to Main Street while attracting new residents and visitors to the area.
Together, the two projects represent one of the most significant public-private investments in downtown Columbia in recent years. Officials say the coordinated developments are expected to boost downtown vibrancy, attract additional private investment, and serve as a model for future city planning efforts.
As part of the announcement celebration, members of the public are invited to attend a community event on Tuesday, July 29 at 10:30 a.m. at 1410 Main St. (Main Street Mural Parking Lot). Attendees will have the opportunity to view architectural renderings of both the Municipal Complex and Core Spaces’ planned development, gaining a firsthand look at the city’s vision for the future.
Food trucks will be on site offering refreshments for purchase, showcasing the flavor and potential of Columbia’s culinary scene. Featured vendors include:
-
Bamboo Cottage
-
Bubblelicious Waffles
-
Carrie Vine’s Homemade Treats
-
Guy’s Hotdogs
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit City of Columbia’s official website or follow the City on social media for project updates.
