Cooling Stations Remain Open Through Thursday as Heat Wave Persists

July 29, 2025

In response to the ongoing extreme heat, Laurens County Emergency Management has announced that all designated cooling stations will remain open through Thursday, July 31, to continue offering relief to residents in need.

The stations, located at the Laurens County Library in Laurens, the Clinton Library, and the Greenpond Fire Department, have already been serving residents seeking a break from the high temperatures.

Local law enforcement officers have also been proactive in ensuring community members stay safe, transporting individuals to cooling stations when they come across anyone in distress due to the heat. While no transportation requests have been received directly through Emergency Management, these collaborative efforts have helped extend support to those most vulnerable during this prolonged period of dangerously high temperatures.

“We want people to know these stations are here and available,” said Rebecca Bagwell, Deputy Director of Laurens County Emergency Management. “They’ve already provided relief for several residents, and law enforcement has done a great job helping folks get to a safe, cool place when needed. Our priority is keeping people safe during this dangerous heat wave.”

Residents are encouraged to utilize the cooling stations if they need a safe, air-conditioned place to escape the heat. The continued operation of these facilities through Thursday provides critical support as the heat wave stretches into the week.
