Celebrating 50 Years of “The Pride of Clinton”: CHS Booster Club Honors 1975 State Championship Team

August 4, 2025

The Clinton High School Booster Club is proud to announce that the 2025 Red Devil Football season will be one to remember. This fall marks the golden anniversary of one of the most celebrated teams in CHS history: the 1975 Clinton Red Devils, winners of the State 3A Football Championship.

Throughout the upcoming season, the CHS Athletic Booster Club, in collaboration with the CHS Athletic Department, WPCC Clinton Red Devil Radio, and the Red Devil Football Program, will commemorate this legendary team and the coaches who led them. What began more than 50 years ago on the field at Wilder Stadium continues today as a powerful legacy: The Pride of Clinton.

Honoring a Tradition of Excellence

The Clinton High School Booster Club itself is a proud part of that tradition. Formed in the early 1970s, the Booster Club has worked tirelessly for decades to support all CHS athletic programs. The legacy of past and present officers is built on passion and pride—for the players, coaches, and community that make Clinton special.

This year, the Booster Club will lead a season-long celebration in honor of the 1975 team’s achievements. The festivities will culminate in a special reunion weekend on September 5–6.

Reunion Weekend Details

  • Friday, September 5: The 1975 Red Devils will be honored during the home opener at Wilder Stadium as Clinton takes on Newberry High School. Legendary Hall of Fame Coach Keith Richardson and members of his coaching staff will return to Richardson Field with the champions of ’75. A special halftime program will recognize the team’s contributions and celebrate their legacy. Fans can also expect a commemorative helmet logo worn by the 2025 Red Devils throughout the season.

  • Saturday, September 6: A formal banquet will be held at Clinton High School at 6:00 p.m. to celebrate the team’s 50th anniversary. Additional details about the banquet will be announced soon.

Celebrating Across All Channels

The tribute won’t stop at the field. Each week, the Game Day Program will feature a dedicated page highlighting moments from the 1975 season. WPCC’s Friday night broadcasts will include special halftime segments recognizing members of the championship team, and Saturday mornings will feature tributes during The Red Devil Rewind Show at Whiteford’s.

Respecting Tradition. Building Upon It.

When Head Coach Corey Fountain arrived in Clinton, he brought with him a commitment to “Respect Tradition and Build Upon It.” This fall, that vision comes full circle as the reigning 2024 State Champions take the field—carrying forward the legacy of the 1975 team and writing a new chapter in Red Devil history.

Mark your calendars for September 5 and join the Clinton community in celebrating 50 years of excellence. The Boys of ’75 are coming home, and The Pride of Clinton lives on.
