Public Input Sought for Draft 2025 South Carolina State Wildlife Action Plan

August 12, 2025

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is inviting public review and comment on the Draft 2025 South Carolina State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP), now available through September 8, 2025.

The SWAP serves as a blueprint for conserving the state’s native wildlife and the habitats on which they depend. The 2025 update identifies key landscapes and habitats, outlines challenges faced by Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN), and recommends targeted actions to ensure their long-term survival. These species are among the most vulnerable in South Carolina due to declining populations, rarity, or gaps in available data.

In addition to conservation priorities, the plan details strategies for research, monitoring, and measuring success over the next decade, providing a comprehensive approach to safeguarding biodiversity in the state.

SCDNR encourages individuals, organizations, and conservation partners to review the draft plan and provide feedback. Comments can be submitted through a short online survey.
