City proposes new office buildings in West Ashley

August 18, 2025

The City of Charleston has proposed constructing new city office buildings at 1660 and 1662 Ingram Road in West Ashley, marking a major step in bringing municipal services closer to residents.

As the city’s largest residential area, West Ashley has long been a focus of redevelopment and investment. Locating administrative offices there is expected to reduce cross-town commuting for city employees and provide residents with more convenient access to essential services that previously required a trip downtown.

Plans call for a modern, state-of-the-art facility designed to house key city departments and serve the community for decades to come. Because the site falls within the West Ashley tax increment financing (TIF) district, the project will undergo staff-level design review.

To ensure transparency and community involvement, the City is hosting a public meeting and will offer additional opportunities for residents to share feedback as the project moves forward.

The public meeting will take place on August 25 from 5:30-6:30pm. Learn more here.
