Laurens Police Department Reminds Residents to Secure Vehicles and Valuables

August 26, 2025

The Laurens Police Department is reminding residents to take simple precautions that can make a big difference in keeping the community safe.

Officers are urging citizens to lock their vehicles every time they park — whether at home, work, or around town. They also stress the importance of removing or concealing valuables such as pocketbooks, book bags, and electronics. Items left in plain sight can quickly catch the attention of thieves.

Another key reminder is to never leave firearms in vehicles overnight. Police emphasize that securing weapons inside residences not only protects property but also prevents firearms from falling into the wrong hands.

Residents are also encouraged to be vigilant and proactive. If someone notices suspicious behavior, such as individuals going through vehicles or lingering around residences, they should notify law enforcement immediately.

“Our goal is to prevent crime before it happens, and many of these steps are simple but effective,” said Laurens Police Chief Heath Copeland. “By locking vehicles, removing valuables, and properly securing firearms, residents can reduce opportunities for crime and help us keep Laurens a safe place for everyone.”

The department is asking citizens to do their part: if you see something suspicious, don’t hesitate to contact the Laurens Police Department right away. Working together, law enforcement and residents can make a significant impact in protecting the community.
