2026 Lawyer of the Year recipient Bert Brannon joins Newsome Law

Newsome Law, a solutions-focused tax, estate and trust firm, has hired Bert Brannon to serve as Of Counsel for the firm. Brannon, recently named a 2026 Lawyer of the Year for Trusts and Estates in the 32nd edition of The Best Lawyers in America®, concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust administration, choice of entity planning and business succession planning for high net worth individuals.

With more than 30 years of legal experience, Brannon brings deep knowledge to the firm as a certified specialist in estate planning and probate law by the South Carolina Supreme Court. He regularly represents individual and corporate fiduciaries in administration matters and is frequently called on to serve as a personal representative or trustee in contested cases.

Over the years, Brannon has earned recognition among the top lawyers in his field. He is also consistently recognized by South Carolina Super Lawyers, the Legal Elite of the Midlands and much more.

Brannon earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science and mathematics from Furman University and an MBA from the University of South Carolina. He went on to receive his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he served as associate editor in chief of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Journal and was inducted into the Order of the Wig and Robe and the Order of the Coif. He later earned a Master of Laws in taxation from New York University School of Law and has been a member of the South Carolina Bar since 1991.
