Goodwyn Mills Cawood expands its geotechnical expertise in Charleston
August 28, 2025Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC), a local architecture and engineering firm, announced the appointment of Ryan Wakeford, PE, as regional geotechnical lead in its Charleston office. Wakeford’s expertise further strengthens the firm’s expanding capabilities and underscores its commitment to advancing communities through geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing.
Wakeford is a professional engineer with over nine years of geotechnical and construction materials testing experience in the Charleston, South Carolina market. His expertise is concentrated in deep foundation design and testing for coastal environments, with a strong passion for uncovering insights “beneath the surface.”
Throughout his career, Wakeford has managed a wide range of geotechnical projects, leading proposal development, cost estimating, field operations, team coordination, training, data analysis, and reporting. His technical background includes geotechnical analyses addressing settlement, liquefaction, deep and shallow foundations, excavations, and retaining wall systems. With extensive on-site experience, he has worked directly with clients and contractors to deliver effective and reliable solutions.
Notable projects Wakeford has worked on include SCDOT transportation projects, Phase II and Phase III of Spring/Fishburne drainage improvements and instrumentation of SC-174 over Sand Creek.
