September 16, 2025

Blythewood Middle School teacher Jordan Atkinson has been selected as a 2025 Palmetto Citizens Teacher of the Game honoree.

The program, presented by Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union in partnership with the University of South Carolina’s Gamecock Athletics, recognizes outstanding South Carolina educators during Gamecock football home games.

“I feel a strong sense of purpose in my work, knowing I am contributing to society in a foundational way,” says Atkinson. “I know many of my students will change the world for good one day.”

Atkinson will be recognized on the scoreboard and loudspeakers during the University of South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Vanderbilt Commodores football game on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025. In addition to the in-game recognition, she will also receive $1,000 from Palmetto Citizens and four tickets to the game.

“At Blythewood Middle School, we believe in nurturing both minds and hearts, and Ms. Atkinson models that every day,” says Karis Mazyck, principal of Blythewood Middle School. “This recognition is not only a celebration of her dedication and hard work, but also a reflection of the supportive community that surrounds our students and staff.”

Launched in 2023, the Teacher of the Game program celebrates the vital role of South Carolina educators and reflects the mission and legacy at the heart of Palmetto Citizens. Founded nearly 90 years ago by Midlands-area educators as the Columbia Teachers Credit Union, Palmetto Citizens remains dedicated to education and community support.
