Stumbo Launches Attorney General Campaign to Packed House at Laurens County Museum

September 17, 2025

The Laurens County Museum was filled to capacity Tuesday night as Solicitor David Stumbo formally launched his Republican campaign for South Carolina Attorney General. Supporters packed the historic downtown venue—many traveling from across the state to be there—joining law enforcement leaders, family, and friends in backing Stumbo’s bid to become the state’s top prosecutor.

Flanked by his wife Vanessa and their four children, Stumbo declared himself “The Conservative Prosecutor” voters can count on to uphold Christian values, defend families, and deliver results in the courtroom.

“Political promises don’t protect people – verdicts do,” Stumbo said to a standing ovation. “For over twenty years, I’ve gone toe-to-toe with predators, traffickers, and violent criminals, and I’ve beaten them. That’s the kind of fight, and the kind of victory, you can count on with me as your Attorney General.”

Five-Point Agenda

In his remarks, Stumbo outlined a five-point plan he says will guide his approach if elected:

  • Crush fentanyl and violent crime through a statewide strike force.

  • Dismantle human trafficking networks and pursue maximum penalties for offenders.

  • Clean up corruption with professionalism and without theatrics.

  • Defend South Carolina from federal overreach and activist judges.

  • Back the badge and serve victims while ensuring law enforcement has resources to keep communities safe.

Tying his platform closely to President Donald Trump’s law-and-order agenda, Stumbo pledged to make South Carolina “a nightmare for criminals” and “the safest place in America for families.” He noted this is not just a campaign promise but a continuation of what he has already done as Solicitor for the Eighth Judicial Circuit, where he has led aggressive prosecutions against violent offenders, cartels, and traffickers while building innovative programs to deliver justice for victims.

Contrast With Opponents

Stumbo emphasized his prosecutorial record and lifelong Republican credentials, distinguishing himself from others in the race.

“I am the only conservative Republican prosecutor in this race – the only one who has put child predators behind bars, stopped illegal immigrants committing crimes, and fought violent gangs right here in South Carolina,” he said. “Others may chase headlines or switch parties when it suits them. I’ve always been a conservative, always been a Republican, and always been a prosecutor who delivers convictions that stick.”

Focus on Victims and Families

Throughout the evening, Stumbo returned to the theme of justice for victims. He recounted stories of grieving parents and survivors of violent crime as the reason behind his campaign.

“I’m running for the father who held the blood-soaked body of his son. For the parents of a young girl whose life was cut short by a reckless driver who never should have been in this country. For the survivors of rape, sexual assault, and domestic violence who deserve justice – not excuses,” Stumbo said.

Closing his speech to loud applause, he added: “Together, we will keep South Carolina safe. Together, we will keep South Carolina strong. And together, we will make South Carolina the greatest state in America.”

Campaign Information

Stumbo has served as Solicitor for South Carolina’s 8th Judicial Circuit since 2013, making him the Upstate’s longest-serving elected criminal prosecutor. He and his wife Vanessa live in the Upstate, where they raised their four children.
