Denmark Technical College relaunches its baseball program and names Isaac Wilson as head coach
September 23, 2025For the first time in more than 20 years, baseball is returning to Denmark Technical College. The program, which traces its roots to an undefeated 1967–68 team that remains a point of pride in school history, last took the field in 2004. Its relaunch marks both a celebration of tradition and the start of a new era.
“Baseball at Denmark Tech has a proud legacy and I’m honored to be part of bringing it back,” said Coach Isaac Wilson. “We’re going to build a program that reflects the tenacity and spirit of this college. Our goal is to prepare student-athletes who compete with heart, succeed academically and represent DTC with pride.”
The return of the sport is already sparking excitement across campus. Students, faculty, staff and alumni alike are eager to see the sport return to campus and to witness the first new team take the field.
“This is the renewal of a tradition that connects past, present and future,” said Tia Wright-Richards, interim president. “Bringing back baseball honors those who came before while creating opportunities for today’s scholars to learn, grow and compete.”
Athletics at Denmark Tech have grown steadily in recent years, with new programs and facilities providing students with more opportunities to compete. The addition of baseball strengthens this momentum and expands the college’s presence in collegiate competition.
“We’re reestablishing a sport that means a lot to this campus and to our community,” said Javon Gilliard, athletic director. “Coach Wilson has the energy, experience and vision to make Denmark Tech baseball a force in the USCAA and NJCAA, and we are ready to get to work.”
>Recruitment for the new team is already underway, with the first season scheduled to open in spring 2026. Community members are welcoming the return of a program that once helped define campus life.
The revival of baseball reinforces Denmark Tech’s commitment to giving students opportunities to grow as athletes, scholars and leaders, while restoring a sport that has long been part of the college’s identity.
