Bon Secours alerts Humana patients as contract negotiations enter new phase

October 9, 2025

Starting December 1, more than 16,000 Humana Managed Medicaid and Medicare Advantage members may lose access to their Bon Secours providers

Bon Secours, a leading health system in Greenville, is alerting patients who have Humana Medicaid and Medicare Advantage health plans they may lose access to their Bon Secours providers by the end of the year, following months of contract negotiations.

If an agreement is not reached by January 1, Bon Secours employed providers, physician offices, and urgent care centers in Greenville, South Carolina will be considered out-of-network for Humana Managed Medicaid and Medicare Advantage members, potentially impacting 16,245 patients. Bon Secours St. Francis Downtown and Bon Secours St. Francis Eastside hospitals in Greenville are not impacted by this negotiation and will remain in-network. Roper St. Francis Healthcare providers and facilities in Charleston, South Carolina are also not impacted by this negotiation. Access to emergency department services will also continue to be available for covered emergency services, regardless of network status.

“We recognize that patients who rely on Managed Medicaid or Medicare Advantage often face unique challenges and may be among the most vulnerable in our communities,” said Matt Caldwell, Market President, Bon Secours. “When reimbursement rates are not sustainable and claims are frequently denied, it creates uncertainty and barriers to care for these patients and their families. We remain committed to resolving these negotiations thoughtfully and working to protect our patients from any gaps in their access to care.”

For now, patients may continue to access Bon Secours providers and facilities as they always have. Bon Secours remains in-network with all other major health plans, and patients are encouraged to stay informed, explore their coverage options, and contact Humana at the number on the back of their insurance card to learn more about their benefits and what it could mean if Bon Secours becomes out-of-network.

Bon Secours will continue to keep patients informed as negotiations evolve. For more detailed information about Bon Secours providers and facilities that may become out of network, visit http://www.bonsecours.com/humana-updates
