Hotter on the Hill Chili Cook-Off Brings Heat and Heart to Cross Hill
October 20, 2025The first annual Hotter on the Hill Chili Cook-Off fired up taste buds and community spirit on October 18 at the Cross Hill Town Park. Seven teams came ready to compete for both the People’s Choice and Judges’ Choice awards — and when the last spoonful was sampled, both trophies went to the aptly named “Meat Sweats Cadets.”
The event drew an enthusiastic crowd for its debut year, featuring live music by Brown Entertainment and plenty of family fun. After expenses, organizers announced that more than $2,000 was raised for the Cross Hill Community Volunteer Fire Department.
Event co-organizer Lonnie Wilson said the team was thrilled with the community’s response.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout for our first year,” Wilson said. “The support from local businesses and families was incredible, and it shows how much pride people have in this community. We’re already planning to make Hotter on the Hill an annual October tradition.”
The event was organized by Lonnie Wilson and Jill Johnson, with all proceeds after expenses donated directly to the fire department.
Sponsor Recognition
The cook-off wouldn’t have been possible without generous support from local sponsors, including:
Skippers on Lake Greenwood, Palmetto Reliance LLC, Lakeside General Store, Mac Marine Upholstery, Scoops N’ Cups Ice Cream, Cross Hill Hardware, Mi Casita Mexican Restaurant, Goliath Auto Sales, Lighthouse Pizza Subs & More, Good Times Mobile RV Service, Mansfield Park Campground, and Buck’s Citgo Quick Stop.
With great food, live music, and community giving, the first Hotter on the Hill was a delicious success — and it’s clear this new Cross Hill event is here to stay.
