USC Brain Health Clinic opens in Orangeburg

October 21, 2025

The University of South Carolina celebrated the opening of its new Brain Health Clinic in Orangeburg with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The event highlighted the continued expansion of neurological care in the Palmetto State and featured remarks from USC President Michael Amiridis, HopeHealth CEO Carl Humphries, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ed Behling, and State Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter. USC Brain Health Director Dr. Leonardo Bonilha served as moderator.

The USC Brain Health Network partners with health systems statewide to expand equitable access to cognitive care, providing diagnosis and treatment for individuals with memory and brain health concerns. The new Orangeburg site marks the seventh Brain Health Network clinic established in South Carolina.

Hosted by HopeHealth, the clinic implements USC Brain Health’s team-based care model, connecting patients with a nurse practitioner, speech-language pathologist, and community health worker to bridge gaps in early diagnosis, education, and family support. A Brain Health Center in Columbia is set to open in 2026, offering advanced imaging, research, and treatment options to further support patients and providers across the state.
