Laurens City Council Recognizes Red Ribbon Week
October 22, 2025At Tuesday night’s Laurens City Council meeting, council members recognized Red Ribbon Week with an official proclamation.
Since proclamations do not require a vote for passage, the declaration was adopted without formal action. Red Ribbon Week is observed annually from October 23 through October 31, with this year’s national theme being “Life Is A Puzzle, Solve It Drug Free.”
As the nation’s largest and longest-running drug prevention campaign, Red Ribbon Week encourages communities to promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles through awareness and education.
During discussion, Councillor Marian Miller raised concerns about local vape shops, noting reports of minors being found in possession of vapes and questioning whether the products might contain drug content.
Mayor Nathan Senn responded that the vape shops operating within the city are legal businesses regulated by state law. He noted that South Carolina law prohibits the sale of vape products to anyone under the age of 21.
In other action, council unanimously approved on first reading Ordinance 10-25-01, an ordinance amending the city’s business license ordinance to update the class schedule as required by the State of South Carolina.
