Cuban Corner celebrates grand opening in Columbia’s Main Street District
October 27, 2025The City of Columbia welcomed the grand opening of Cuban Corner, a family-owned restaurant celebrating Cuban culture, community, and culinary tradition. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 1212 Hampton Street, with Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, Main Street District President and CEO Matt Kennell, City of Columbia Economic Development representatives, and the Cuban Corner owners in attendance.
Founded by a Cuban family who came to the United States seeking political asylum, Cuban Corner began two years ago at Soda City Market as a small 10×10 tent. The family’s dedication and the support of the local community quickly transformed it into a beloved local favorite.
“Cuban Corner is more than a restaurant; it’s a story of family, hard work, and community,” said the owners. “We are proud to represent the Latin community and to contribute to the growth of this great city that has embraced us like family.”
The new restaurant reflects this story in every detail. Walls are adorned with photos of loyal customers from the early days at Soda City Market, and the family plans to continue adding new photos each year. Guests are invited to leave their signatures on the walls, creating a living tribute to the community that helped make their dream possible.
Cuban Corner is a multigenerational family venture, run by parents, two daughters, and a grandmother. Their mission goes beyond food—it’s about sharing culture, gratitude, and connection with every visitor.
The grand opening event at 1212 Hampton Street officially marked the beginning of this next chapter, offering the community a chance to experience authentic Cuban flavors in a warm, welcoming setting.
