October 30, 2025South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) announces the premiere of the latest episode of SCETV Safe Space, the award-winning program focused on youth mental health. The new episode, titled “Triggered: Understanding the Roots of Anger,” will air Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. on ETV. This episode takes an in-depth look at how emotional intelligence can help teens understand and manage their emotions. From self-awareness and communication to empathy and self-control, the discussion examines how emotional literacy can transform relationships and decision-making.
Hosted by entrepreneur, author and SCETV correspondent Brittney Brackett, “Triggered: Understanding the Roots of Anger” explores how unresolved trauma, depression and daily stressors can manifest as anger and how emotional intelligence can help break the cycle. Through candid conversations, the episode explores the “cause and effect” behind emotional reactions and shares tools to build self-awareness, communicate effectively and foster healing. Viewers gain insight into how past experiences and daily stress can shape emotional responses as well as how recognizing and addressing those feelings can lead to growth and resilience.
Joining the conversation are student panelists David Pendergrass, Keziah Tyler, Reonna Dungee, Tanai Myers and Brian Harris from C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia; Orion Williams, Colin Covert, Sophia Robinson and Rhyan Horton from Dreher High School in Columbia; and Joyelle Jacobs from Westwood High School in Blythewood. Together, they share personal insights on how emotional intelligence can empower young people to navigate frustration and conflict in healthier ways.
This new episode builds on the mission of SCETV Safe Space to foster honest conversations on mental health among South Carolina’s youth and the adults who support them. Previous episodes have tackled issues such as teen stress, social media, peer relationships and bullying.
