Road Closure and Emergency Demolition at 1001 King Street
November 3, 2025The City of Charleston has closed a portion of King Street and is coordinating the emergency demolition of an unsafe building located at 1001 King Street. Inspections have determined that the structure is at imminent risk of collapse.
King Street is closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic between Grove Street and Francis Street until further notice. This closure is necessary to protect public safety, as the building’s front wall is unstable and could potentially collapse into the street. Barricades and fencing have been installed to restrict access to the area.
The public is strongly advised to avoid the area surrounding 1001 King Street and to use alternate routes. The street will remain closed until the demolition is complete and engineers determine the area is safe to reopen.
