CHS Junior Mia Carles Makes School History with State Golf Championship Win
November 10, 2025The A/AA State Girls Golf Championship was held Tuesday, October 28, at Chester Golf Club, concluding a weather-altered event that proved historic for Clinton High School.
Originally scheduled as a two-day, 36-hole tournament, heavy rain on Monday condensed play into a single 18-hole round. Junior Mia Carles delivered under pressure, firing a 69 (-3) to claim the Individual State Championship—becoming the first State Girls Golf Champion in Clinton High School history.
A Family Built on Golf Excellence
The Carles sisters have created one of the strongest and most accomplished family legacies in South Carolina junior golf. Each sister has achieved success at the highest levels of junior and collegiate play.
Phoebe Carles
Phoebe Carles
Phoebe won multiple titles at the junior level through the SCJGA, CGA, and AJGA. She continued her winning ways in college, earning a Division I victory while competing for UNC–Asheville. In high school, she made All-State in AAA while playing from the same distances as the boys—an elite accomplishment. The last player to earn that distinction before Phoebe was Lauren Stephenson, who now competes on the LPGA Tour.
Sofi Carles

Sofia earned multiple All-Region honors while playing with the boys at the AAA classification and helped lead her team to several top-10 finishes at the state level. She also earned titles through the SCJGA and recorded numerous top-10 finishes during her Division I career at Presbyterian College.
Gabi Carles

Gabi continued the family’s competitive tradition at Clinton High School, playing on the boys’ golf team and earning All-Region honors. Now a freshman golfer at Presbyterian College, she brings consistency, competitive grit, and solid ball-striking to the Blue Hose program as she begins her Division I career.
Mia Carles
Mia has already built an elite junior résumé of her own, with four CGA titles, two WSCGA titles, and several additional victories while competing in the SCJGA. She has accumulated numerous top-10 and top-5 finishes in national events and has competed on both national and international stages, including playing in Panama.
She also qualified for the USGA Girls’ Junior Championship, advancing to the Round of 32 before falling to the eventual champion—a performance that places her among the country’s strongest junior competitors.
Hannah Carles

The legacy continues with Hannah, the youngest of the Carles sisters. At just 13 years old, she already has multiple SCJGA wins and is quickly earning recognition for her talent and competitive drive. She appears poised to follow the path laid by her sisters—and perhaps add even more to the Carles family’s growing list of accomplishments.
A Historic Day for CHS Athletics
Mia’s three-under-par round at Chester Golf Club delivered Clinton High School its first-ever State Girls Golf Champion. Her performance reflects years of dedication, composure under pressure, and a family tradition built on excellence.
As Mia continues competing in elite tournaments around the country and beyond, Clinton High School celebrates a milestone achievement—one shaped by hard work, talent, and a remarkable golf legacy that clearly isn’t finished yet.
