🦪 Georgetown and Horry County Councils Recognize Oyster Shell Recycling Efforts
November 17, 2025MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (Nov. 17, 2025) — Local oyster recycling efforts are receiving dual recognition this week as both Horry and Georgetown County Councils issue proclamations aimed at promoting the health of local estuaries.
Horry County Council is scheduled to proclaim Nov. 18, 2025, as Oyster Shell Recycling Day.
Meanwhile, the Georgetown County Council will recognize the period of Nov. 17–21, 2025, as Oyster Shell Recycling Week. This proclamation coincides with the planned installation of a new public oyster shell drop-off bin next week at the Murrells Inlet Public Boat Ramp parking lot.
Murrells Inlet 2020 is a non-profit organization formed in 1997 whose mission is to promote the conservation of the natural environment while fostering local community and commerce.
Both councils are encouraging residents, restaurants, volunteers and partners to emphasize the importance of shell recycling to support healthy waterways and thriving oyster populations.
The Georgetown County Council will issue Proclamation No. 25-34 during its meeting on Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Howard Auditorium in Georgetown. Horry County Council will hold its meeting on the same day at 6 p.m. at the Government & Justice Building in Conway.
