Who’s On The Move adds new market, launches publication in Georgetown County

Who’s On The Move (WOTM) announces the launch of a new local publication, the Georgetown SC Gazette, a digital news platform built around a twice-weekly email newsletter and a community-focused website. The Gazette will provide accurate and timely reporting on local government, schools, business, organizations, events and residents across Georgetown County. The publication will cover the city of Georgetown as well as the surrounding communities of Andrews, Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet, and Litchfield.
WOTM has named Karen Owens as Publisher of the Georgetown SC Gazette. Owens recently became a permanent resident of the Georgetown area although she has been coming to the Pawleys-Georgetown area for over 35 years. Owens has worked in economic development and public relations across government, nonprofit and private organizations. A veteran communications executive, she has a passion for making difference in the communities and organizations she’s served over her career. She’s excited to begin this new chapter in Georgetown with a focus on enhancing community vitality and achieving measurable results for local stakeholders.
“Georgetown deserves a news source that reflects the community,” Owens said. “Our goal is to highlight the people and organizations that shape the county and to support informed conversations.”
The Gazette’s online format will make local news accessible through desktop and mobile devices. Readers will be able to submit story ideas, community events and guest columns.
Owens is working with Alan and Cheryl Cooper, the owners and publishers since 2007 of MidlandsBiz, LowcountryBizSC and UpstateBizSC, to establish the new Georgetown publication.
“I have worked with Alan and Cheryl for nearly 20 years on business announcements, community events and workforce needs,” Owens said. “After relocating to Georgetown, we discussed how our experience could support local coverage. The decision to launch a digital news site followed naturally.”

The publication will operate without subscription fees or paywalls. Readers can sign up for email newsletters at georgetownscgazette.com, which is now live. The twice-weekly newsletters will begin in the New Year.
