Verdae selects Purple Horse Hospitality to lead next chapter for The Preserve at Verdae
December 16, 2025Local operator to assume management of Greenville’s only 18-hole public golf course, preserving public play and enhancing food, beverage and community experience
Verdae has selected Greenville-based Purple Horse Hospitality as the new operating partner for The Preserve at Verdae, the City of Greenville’s only public, regulation-length golf course. Purple Horse Hospitality will assume operations on February 1, 2026. The transition follows Atrium Hospitality’s decision to exit the golf course business in South Carolina as part of a broader strategic shift, which prompted Verdae to launch a search for a new operator to build on the course’s success as a community asset.
The Preserve at Verdae, which has served the Greenville community since the early 1990s, will remain a key recreational anchor within the Verdae master-planned community. With the termination of the long-term land lease with Atrium, Verdae is reassuming control of both the land and the golf course asset and will steward the property as part of its long-term vision for a connected, active and inclusive community.
“Public golf has been part of the City of Greenville’s fabric for more than three decades, and The Preserve at Verdae is an important community asset and a defining part of the Verdae story,” said Dan Klausner, chief executive officer of Verdae Development, Inc. “By partnering with Purple Horse Hospitality, we’re preserving open access to the course while bringing a more engaging, hospitality-driven experience that welcomes long-time golfers, new players and neighbors alike.”
Atrium Hospitality will continue day-to-day operations at The Preserve at Verdae through January 31, 2026, and no interruption in play is expected during the transition.
Purple Horse Hospitality selected after comprehensive search
Verdae engaged both local and national golf course operators in a thorough search process before selecting Purple Horse Hospitality, a Greenville-based company known for its innovative approach to golf, food and social experiences, including its 3’s golf concept.
Purple Horse Hospitality will collaborate closely with existing staff to ensure a smooth transition for golfers, leagues and events.
Under Purple Horse Hospitality’s leadership, initial priorities will include:
- Partnering with current course staff to ensure operational continuity and a seamless transition for players, leagues and events
- Enhancing food and beverage offerings, drawing on the company’s proven expertise in golf-centered hospitality
- Exploring future improvements to the guest experience, with a continued emphasis on open access and community use
Verdae and Purple Horse Hospitality anticipate sharing additional updates as plans for enhancements are finalized.
