HGTC Foundation’s 3rd Annual “Flights & Bites” Raises Record-Breaking $46,849 to Support Culinary Students

December 16, 2025

The Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) Foundation is proud to announce that the third Annual “Flights & Bites” fundraising event achieved its most successful year yet, raising $46,849.03 in support of HGTC students. This marks a remarkable 30 percent (30%) increase over last year’s total of just over $34,000.

Held on October 16 at the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach, the sold-out event welcomed guests for an immersive evening of gourmet tastings, craft beverages, live music, and student talent on full display. Five themed tasting rooms, designed and staffed by HGTC Culinary Arts students and faculty, offered a dynamic culinary experience while highlighting the exceptional training provided by the College.

The funds raised will directly support Culinary Travel Abroad programs and critical resources for HGTC students, helping remove financial barriers and creating pathways to academic and career success.

HGTC Foundation President & CEO Shannon Detzler expressed her gratitude for the community’s continued support. “This year’s record-breaking results show just how strongly our community believes in the mission of the HGTC Foundation,” Detzler said. “Flights & Bites has become a celebration of generosity, creativity, and student excellence. Every dollar raised will make a meaningful difference for the students who rely on assistance to pursue their education. We are truly grateful to our sponsors, guests, and partners for helping us exceed our goal and create more opportunities for students to thrive.”

The 2025 event was made possible through the generous support of sponsors including Presenting Sponsor CRG Homes; Entertainment Sponsor Anderson Brothers Bank; and Tasting Room Sponsors Coastal Carolinas Association of Realtors, First Citizens Bank, The Citizens Bank, The Jackson Companies, and United Bank.

“Flights & Bites” continues to grow in attendance and community impact each year, solidifying its role as a signature fundraising event for the HGTC Foundation.
