Laurens County Hospital Earns National Top Hospital Recognition from The Leapfrog Group

December 29, 2025

Laurens County Hospital has been named a Top Hospital by The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization known for setting some of the most rigorous standards in health care safety and quality. The recognition places Laurens County Hospital among a select group of hospitals nationwide recognized for exceptional performance and patient care.

Laurens County Hospital received the designation of Teaching Top Hospital, highlighting its strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement in patient outcomes. Two other Prisma Health hospitals were also recognized in the latest rankings: Oconee Memorial Hospital as a Rural Top Hospital and Patewood Hospital as a Teaching Top Hospital.

The Leapfrog Group evaluates hospitals through its comprehensive Hospital Survey, which measures performance across key areas of patient safety and quality. To earn Top Hospital status, facilities must rank among the best in their peer group and meet strict quantitative and qualitative criteria.

Hospitals receiving this honor must earn an “A” rating on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, meet Leapfrog’s standards for computerized provider order entry (CPOE), ICU physician staffing, and never events policies, and demonstrate strong performance across a majority of applicable safety and quality measures. Additional criteria include achieving Leapfrog’s standards for high-risk surgeries and procedures.

Beyond survey data, hospitals are also reviewed using information from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and other publicly available sources. To qualify, hospitals must perform at or above national benchmarks on select CMS measures, ensuring excellence not only in reporting but in real-world outcomes.

For Laurens County Hospital, the recognition reflects excellence across multiple areas of care, including infection prevention, safer surgical practices, medication safety, and patient-centered care. It also underscores the dedication of physicians, nurses, and staff who work daily to uphold the highest standards of safety and quality for the Laurens County community.

The Leapfrog Top Hospital designation is widely regarded as one of the most competitive honors in health care, with only a small percentage of hospitals nationwide earning the distinction each year. Laurens County Hospital’s inclusion affirms its role as a trusted provider and a leader in delivering high-quality care close to home.
