Georgetown City Council to hold first regular meeting in 2026
January 12, 2026The City of Georgetown will convene its first council meeting of 2026, with a new mayor and three new council members, on Thursday, January 15 at 5:30 pm in the Municipal Courtroom located at 2222 Highmarket Street. As part of the agenda, Mayor Jay Doyle is proposing a 180-day moratorium on rezoning and building projects within the city.
In a letter released last week, Doyle cited the need to address development and annexation to ensure sustainable growth for the city in the future. He said hiring new staff for the Planning and Development Department was imperative before future projects should be adopted. He also wants a thorough assessment of the the city’s utilities infrastructure along with the Comprehensive Plan and zoning ordinances during this moratorium window, which he described as a “pumping of the brakes – not stopping the car.”
