MUSC applauds Governor’s support of the Comprehensive Cancer Hospital
January 15, 2026South Carolina Gov. Henry D. McMaster has presented his Executive Budget for Fiscal Year 2026-2027, recommending funding for the new Comprehensive Cancer Hospital in Charleston at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). The governor’s strong support aligns with MUSC’s vision and commitment to discover a cure and deliver the best-in-class cancer patient experience for South Carolinians.
“I’m grateful to Gov. McMaster for sharing our vision and for his dedication to the citizens of South Carolina,” said David J. Cole, M.D., FACS, president of MUSC. “The Comprehensive Cancer Hospital is a critical part of developing a statewide cancer-care ecosystem that is needed to achieve National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center designation. It will transform access to state-of-the-art cancer care for all South Carolinians.”
These funds will be designated for the construction of the hospital. Cancer research and patient care remain a top priority for MUSC, as projections indicate that cancer incidence rates in South Carolina will increase 20% by 2028.
