Associate Construction Technician I
January 16, 2026General Purpose: Responsible for assisting with the construction and repair of water and sewer systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following essential duties and responsibilities are required at all pay grade levels
• Assists with the securing and handling of loads including weight distribution and use of binding equipment.
• Assist with work orders including man hours, inventory, and needed comments.
• Utilizes hand tools and other light equipment.
• Assists with the installation and repair of water and sewer main lines.
• Assists with the installation and repair of water and sewer taps.
• Assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire hydrants.
• Assists with repairs of wet wells and manholes.
• Assists with the installation and repair of grinders and STEP units.
• Assists with the Installation, and inspection and minor repairs of backflow devices.
• Safely assist with trenching operations.
• Assists with job restoration including clean-up, repair of paved surfaces, and sod or lawn surface repairs.
• Performs basic traffic control including flagging.
• Uses hand tools to assist in the installation and placement of various plant equipment and water or wastewater connections.
• Interacts with customers.
• Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
• Operation and maintenance of water and sewer valves.
The following essential duties and responsibilities are required at Pay Grade 2
• Provides accurate data to create new work orders.
• Transports, operates and maintains equipment including mini track hoes, and backhoes, jackhammers, etc.
• Assists with the installation of and repairs to water and sewer mainlines
• Assists with the installation of and repairs to water and sewer taps
• Performs hydrant maintenance and minor repairs including exercising valves, lubricating, replacing caps, and painting
• Installs and makes repairs to backflow devices
Other Duties and Responsibilities
• May perform portions of the work of higher classified positions, occasionally, as assigned.
• Assists other employees in general maintenance or repair of district facilities and plant operation.
• Perform minor building construction activities
• Serves on various employee or other committees, as assigned
• Performs related duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers
• Ability to read, understand, and utilize schematic diagrams, blueprints, and drawings.
• Skill in operation of hand tools and equipment.
• Some knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction, and repair equipment.
• Basic mechanical ability
• Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time
• Ability to work safely
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and inwriting
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public;
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
Desired Education and Experience
Associate Construction Technician Pay Grade 1
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Valid SC Driver’s License
• SC “D” Water Distribution license
• SC “D” Wastewater Collection license
Associate Construction Technician Pay Grade 2
• High School diploma or equivalent
• 1 year or directly related work experience
• Valid SC Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and 30,000 lb. trailer endorsement
• SC “C” Water Distribution license
• SC “C” Wastewater Collection license
