A Legacy of Community: Fountain Inn Honors the Impact of PD Terry
January 24, 2026The City of Fountain Inn is pausing to remember and celebrate the life of a man whose legacy is deeply woven into the heart of the community.
At a recent City Council meeting, members formally presented Resolution 2026-01 in honor of Rodger Glenn “PD” Terry, recognizing his extraordinary life of service and the lasting impact he made on Fountain Inn. Through the resolution, City Council officially proclaimed January 9, 2026, as “PD Terry Day” in the City of Fountain Inn.
Known simply as “PD” to generations of residents, Terry dedicated more than three decades to the city through his work in Parks & Recreation. Serving as Fountain Inn’s Recreation Director from 1977 until his retirement in 2008, he helped shape not only programs and facilities, but the very culture of community connection that continues to define the city today.
Under his leadership, recreation in Fountain Inn became more than just games and practices. PD worked to ensure sports programs were accessible to every child, regardless of their circumstances. His warm personality, familiar voice, and signature greeting made local ballfields feel like a second home for thousands of young athletes and their families.
His influence extended well beyond scheduling games or maintaining fields. PD Terry was known as a mentor to young coaches, a steady leader, and someone who had a gift for seeing potential in others. The traditions he helped establish created spaces where families, friendships, and community pride could grow.
In recognition of his decades of dedication, the city previously named its primary recreation hub PD Terry City Park in his honor. The park stands as a lasting tribute to his vision of a community centered on play, integrity, and mutual support. Today, it serves as a daily reminder of the lives he touched and the foundation he helped build.
As tributes continue to be shared across Fountain Inn, residents are remembering PD Terry not only for what he accomplished, but for who he was — a mentor, a leader, and a cornerstone of the community.
Though Fountain Inn has grown and changed over the years, the spirit PD Terry instilled through his service remains a defining part of the city’s identity. His legacy lives on in every game played, every child encouraged, and every family gathered in the park that proudly bears his name.
