PC Softball Adds Associate Head Coach Stacey Johnson-Whitfield

January 26, 2026

Presbyterian College head softball coach David Williams has announced the addition of Stacey Johnson-Whitfield as the program’s new Associate Head Coach, bringing a decorated playing career and proven collegiate coaching success to the Blue Hose staff ahead of Williams’ eighth season in Clinton.

Johnson-Whitfield joins PC following four seasons leading Furman University, where she guided the Paladins to 81 wins as head coach after first serving as the team’s pitching coach. Her tenure was marked by steady improvement, postseason competitiveness, and strong individual player development.

“We are very excited about the addition of Stacey to our staff,” said Williams. “She brings a great deal of experience and knowledge, which will only help in our players’ development. I look forward to working with her and seeing her impact upon the program.”

During her time at Furman, Johnson-Whitfield coached eight All-Southern Conference selections, including a SoCon Player of the Year and a SoCon Freshman of the Year. Her teams consistently exceeded preseason expectations and showed growth both on the field and in the classroom.

She began her Furman career in 2021 working exclusively with pitchers, helping the staff lower its conference ERA by more than a full run. Elevated to interim head coach in 2022 and later named permanent head coach, Johnson-Whitfield led the Paladins to a top-four finish in the conference tournament after being predicted to place sixth.

Her 2023 squad finished third in the SoCon standings and featured four first-team all-conference selections. That season, Riley Ludlam was named SoCon Player of the Year after batting .372, while Kiley Perry earned SoCon Freshman of the Year honors. In 2024, Furman picked up notable wins over ACC programs Clemson and Louisville while earning additional all-conference recognition. Academic success also climbed each season, with increasing representation on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.

Before her collegiate head coaching career, Johnson-Whitfield founded SJW Fast Pitch, operating as a pitching instructor for 15 years. Through her business, she mentored pitchers who went on to compete at schools including Arkansas, Clemson, Louisville, Penn State, Rutgers, South Carolina, Tennessee, and others. She also gained coaching experience at the high school level.

As a player, Johnson-Whitfield was one of the most accomplished pitchers in University of South Carolina history. A Pennsylvania native, she helped lead the Gamecocks to two SEC Eastern Division Championships and four NCAA Tournament appearances from 2001–2004. South Carolina recorded at least 40 wins in each of her first three seasons.

More than two decades later, she still ranks among the program’s career leaders, including fourth in total starts, fifth in strikeouts, and ninth in career ERA. She threw a no-hitter in 2004 — fittingly against Furman — and twice earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors during her career.

Johnson-Whitfield graduated from South Carolina in 2004. She is married to former Gamecock football player Travis Whitfield, and the couple has two daughters, Vivian and Lilly.

With a track record of developing pitchers, building competitive teams, and mentoring student-athletes, Johnson-Whitfield’s arrival adds significant experience and leadership to the Blue Hose program as Presbyterian College looks ahead to the upcoming season.
